Welcome to the website of Peter Marges!
Subjects and idea's, reasons to imagine are boatshapes, themes from mathematics, themes around time and place. And all in a contemplative way of looking at these issues. This means that the philosophical motifs and their deductible picture elements, more than concrete shapes, play an important role in the development of the work.
Despite his interest in drawing, painting and music, he started with a technical education. After 2 years he choose an existence as a visual artist though. He was trained as drawing teacher and from then on he combined his work as an autonomous artist-painter with giving courses to adults and children. Mostly as a teacher in Cultural Center de Stoep in Spijkenisse, and also in Hellevoetsluis and Rozenburg.
In his work as an artist he has developed himself as an autodidact. Since 1969 he has had solo exhibitions at several galleries and he participated in several group exhibitions. His work has been purchased by the Municipal in Schiedam, the hospital in Dirksland and various art lending libraries include Gouda, The Hague, Utrecht, Brielle and Geervliet. Art works are bought by private collectors in the Netherlands, Belgium and Finland.
Since the early 80's the works consisted mostly mixed techniques on rice paper. This is being layered with, inter alia, dry pastel, watercolor, graphite, and acryl-medium. Barring a motif the work has an inquisitive nature and the choice for artist-material links closely to that. From 2005 he also makes objects where a form is being sought in a more or less concrete subject. The set current materials are received or made at the subject, and sometimes even a finding starts an occasion, the results speak for themselves and offer, at the best space for your own story.
Peter Marges was born in 1943 in Rotterdam. Today he lives in Maassluis (NL).
Thanks for yor visit, and enjoy the galleries.
In mijn werken neemt het schip een belangrijke plaats in. In mijn logo heb ik daarom een gestyleerd scheepje met vlag opgenomen.
The ship takes up an important role in my work. That is why I included in my logo a stylized boat with a flag.
